ON MY WAY HOME: EVERYTHING THE LIGHT TOUCHES
A Solo Exhibition from Brian Junior
On view through April 20, 2025
The LAR Gallery is thrilled to present On My Way Home: Everything the Light Touches, a captivating solo exhibition featuring the work of Houston-based artist Brian Junior. This thought-provoking exhibition will be on view through April 20, 2025.
Brian Junior grew up in Dayton, Texas, a rural town with a deep connection to the legacy of the Black cowboy. This heritage, defined by devotion, honest work, and community, instilled in him a profound sense of belonging, shaping his perspective and the way he encapsulates stories. Like many who grow up in small towns, the full weight of home wasn’t clear to him until he ventured elsewhere in pursuit of "the dream."
His return to Dayton was a reconnection to the foundation that had always grounded him. On My Way Home embodies this return. Over the past several years, Brian has documented the nuances of the Black western lifestyle—from rodeos to ranching—capturing its authenticity and the people who carry it forward. This collection explores the genius, resilience, and legacy embedded in his hometown and the surrounding areas, with each photograph serving as both a reflection of and tribute to the community that raised him.
This body of work marks a shift in Brian’s artistic journey—a commitment to honor the enduring legacy of his heritage. The work moves beyond the concept of home as a physical place into a deeper exploration of what it means to belong, to reconnect, and to continue the stories of those who came before. Home is not merely a place but an aspect of life to which you return.
